About
The Irish United Nations Veterans Association (IUNVA) was formed in Dublin in February 1990.
Post 24 was formed in 2004 and initially held its meetings at Kickham Barracks, Clonmel. In September 2011 after many months of restoration work, it took up residence at the Station Master's House, Railway Station, Clonmel where it continues to improve and develop this very highly regarded resource.
The Association is a recognised Charity and has the approval of the Government, it is non-denominational, non-political and non-sectarian.
The Principal Aims & Objectives:
Main Aims
The prevention or relief of poverty and hardship and the provision of relief in cases of necessity or distress to members of IUNVA and their dependants.
To provide financial and other supports to veterans whose lives have been adversely affected as a result of service with the United Nations.
Integration of disadvantaged veterans and promotion of their full participation in society.
To promote, the honour of Irish citizens who have died in the cause of world peace while on service with the United Nations or on UN mandated missions or operations.
Secondary Objects
To promote public awareness, of the history of Irish participation in UN missions and operations.
To support, where requested, training, education and awareness within the Defence Forces and other organisations regarding overseas service and the history of Irish participation.
To support commemorative and ceremonial events organised by the State, local communities and other national veteran associations.
To assist with academic research into Irish involvement in UN operations and missions.
To provide and coordinate health education courses, advice and counselling for members.
To provide a network of support and social interaction through the organisation of social, recreational, cultural and sporting activities for members and their dependants.
To establish, maintain and encourage contact with likeminded kindred associations in Ireland and in other countries.
To engage and advocate with central government, local government, state and voluntary agencies in advancing the interests of the Association.
JOIN IUNVA
Membership is available to anyone who has successfully completed a tour of duty with a UN Force or Organisation, serving or retired.
Anyone may subscribe to our Association with a payment of €24.00 per annum contact the Post Secretary or Treasurer. All subscribers will be acknowledged and Irish United Nations Veterans Association - Veterans Badge issued.
